alligator
The authorities on the Costa del Sol have taken seriously the possibility of an alligator being on the loose in the Mijas area of the Costa del Sol.

They are convinced that there is a 7-ft long beast roaming the countryside having found tracks and received sightings from members of the public.

As a precaution signs have been erected as well as a 24 hour surveillance post during the Easter period, one of the busiest times outside of peak season summer.

Somehow experts have managed to assume that the alligator is 12-18 years old and could way a massive 70kg.

Nobody knows exactly how the alligator came to be in the wild but one theory is that an individual who once owned exotic pets let it go.

The aim of the mayor of Mijas, Angel Nozal, is to trap the alligator alive and they are in talks with the local police and a nature protection group known as Seprona.

So if you are out walking, or playing gold in the Mijas area this Easter, make sure you stay a little more vigilant and pay attention the the signs which simply say ‘Grave Danger – Crocodile on the Loose’
