Tossa de Mar Beaches

There are four ‘main’ beaches to choose from although the area is scattered with bays.

Playa Gran – This is really the main beach in Tossa de Mar where you will find most tourists heading to. It is mainly shingle and stone and you will find that many locals actually moor there boats at this beach.

Being the main beach you will find many beach bars, restaurants and shops along Playa Gran.

Es Codolar – This is a much quieter beach area to Tossa de Mar accessed via the famous attraction of Villa Vella (having gone through the new town).

The water at this beach is crystal clear and therefore a favourite with divers and snorkelers. If you don’t mind a small stroll to get to the beach, Es Codolar is a must to visit.

Playa del Reig – Close to the main Playa Gran and just a bit further along is the Playa del Reig No facilities so go prepared). This is a very small beach area but boasts a small area of sand. Please note that this beach might not be ideal for families with small children or elderly / disabled holiday makers as access to the beach is by way of a steep staircase off of Avenida San Ramon de Penyafort.

Mar Menuda – This is still a popular beach for locals and tourists but not nearly as busy as the main Playa Gran. Again it is a shingle beach and well used by water-sports lovers and divers.

This beach is a small bay area accessible via a promenade that is lined with restaurants, bars and shops.

This entire area is popular with marine conservationists and lovers of natural rock formations as it boasts some of the most incredible natural occurances. The L’Illa is located within this area and is a magnificent rock formation which attracts many tourists. A little further on are a whole series of ‘stacks’ and formations known as Ses Illetes.
