Tourist Guide To Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol
The ‘package holiday’ had to originate somewhere and Spain is proud to boast that Torremolinos gave the world the phenomenon known as ‘Package Holidays’.
Back in the 1970’s Torremolinos became a popular haunt for European sun worshipers, especially those from the colder northern European countries like those in Scandinavia.
Back then most hotels just offered accommodation and possibly some food and drink, but in Torremolinos, a family of hoteliers had the foresight to offer a little more than just a room for the night and this grew and developed into the package holiday that we know of today.
At the same time, one others caught on to the popularity of this type of ‘holiday’, hotel after hotel was built in Torremolinos, and it soon became one of the most popular European holiday destinations.
Torremolinos went through many different guises during these times, and at one stage, became known for the masses of ‘party’ tourists that would arrive each year and essentially spend the entire time drunk.
Thankfully these days Torremolinos is not a typical ‘lager lout’ Costa del Sol holiday destination, it is a more peaceful and still hugely popular resort for couples or families.
Torremolinos has nice long sandy beaches and lots of activities on offer from water-sports through to aqua parks for the kids.
As with many of the resorts on this side of the Costa del Sol there is a long promenade where you can stroll between the beach and the shops. If you happen to get thirsty during your stroll (very likely) or even hungry don’t worry as there are simply hundreds of bars, chiringuitos (beach restaurants) and restaurants to choose from.
Being right on the sea it is no surprise that some of the Costa del Sol’s finest fish restaurants can be found in Torremolinos.
Where is Torremolinos
Torremolinos is the very first resort you will come to as you head west from Malaga Airport and is literally just a 5 to 10 minute car journey.
This position to the airport is another reason it still remains a very popular resort with many different hotels and accommodation on offer.
