A resurgence of German tourists is gracing the shores of the Costa del Sol, marking their return after a hiatus brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since 2020, the count of holidaymakers from Germany had experienced a decline of 20%, yet this year presents clear indications of their renewed preference for the Malaga province as their premier summer getaway.
Based on the insights shared by Turismo Costa del Sol, the period spanning from January to June of this year witnessed the arrival of approximately 353,543 German travellers at Malaga Airport. This number stands a mere 31,000 lower than the figures from the corresponding pre-pandemic timeframe of 2019.
Notably, the Costa del Sol airport has transformed into a launchpad for Germans to explore the broader expanse of Andalucía, as the data unveils an upsurge in German visitors across the entire region. Over the initial six months of this year, a cumulative sum of 314,219 visitors from Germany sought repose in Andalusian hotels, translating to an impressive total of 1,232,967 nights spent. On average, their sojourns extended over 3.9 days.
With the intent to bolster these figures even further, officials from Andalusian tourism embarked on a journey to the Museumsuferfest event in Frankfurt over the preceding weekend, aiming to spotlight the region. This event, which made a triumphant return after its suspension due to the pandemic, is widely regarded as one of Europe’s grandest open-air cultural spectacles.
