Rafa Nadal Tennis Club Malaga

New updates have been revealed regarding the proposed Rafa Nadal Tennis Club set to be built on a 33,000 square metre area on the western side of Malaga city. In response to a request for information from the Unidas Podemos party, councillor for Town Planning Raúl López shared further information about the development, which could potentially be constructed on the ground currently used as a car park adjacent to the Palacio de Deportes sports arena.

López explained that the land was initially intended to be used as a park-and-ride facility as part of the city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, as it is close to the metro station. Therefore, any development on this site above ground would need to comply with the underground park-and-ride requirement.

According to López, Sierra Blanca Estates, the developer behind the project, has plans for a new car park that will have more than 1,000 spaces. He also clarified that the Rafa Nadal Tennis Club will not be an academy, but rather a tennis club with 12 high-level tennis courts, nine padel courts, and a central court that can accommodate 3,000 spectators. The club will allow international competitions to be hosted in Malaga and include an outdoor swimming pool and a multi-purpose building that will house a fitness and crossfit area, sports shop, restaurant, spa, and a museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal himself. This tennis club would only be the fifth of its kind in the world after the United States, Mexico, Greece and Kuwait.
