marbella

I guess when people think of that amazing Spanish villa, located close to the sea, with its own pool and amazing views, they tend to think of Mareblla. For many years the typical Spanish villa was the image of someone like Sean Connery lazing around in the sun on the Golden Mile, constantly throwing cocktail parties surrounded by beautiful women.

Well to be honest, back in the 60’s and 70’s all of the above is true and an accurate account of the type of people that owned villas in Marbella. These days of course Marbella is not just for the rich and famous, it is enjoyed by everyone.

Villas are no longer just assigned to the Golden Mile, they are now all over the area from the coast to more remote inland locations.

A villa is still a popular choice for property buyers, especially those that want a little more privacy than other purchasers. They are usually built on an individual plot of land, and in some cases some people purchase adjoining plots and build across them all.

The typical Marbella villa is no longer a huge millionaire’s paradise. Yes of course those still exist and are available for sale, but most villas are affordable and in many different locations.

Marbella itself is a much bigger ‘resort’ than it once was too. It has spread out inland, east and west. Cabopino is the furthest point east of Marbella and even in that part of the resort there are a number of villas built. They tend to be a little cheaper as it is about a 15 minute drive from central Marbella.

Some of the most popular places in Marbella to buy a villa are;

  1. Cabopino
  2. Elviria
  3. Las Chapas
  4. Los Monteros
  5. Sierra Blanca
  6. Marbella Centro
  7. Marbella Golden Mile
  8. Nueva Andalucia
  9. San Pedro de Alcantara
  10. Guadalmina

There are of course many other locations in Marbella that have stunning villas but these are some of the main and most sought after areas.

You will tend to find that the majority of villas start from a minimum of 3 bedrooms and can go up to over a dozen. Not all villas have their own pool and in some cases, some have been built as part of a bigger development with communal pools.

There really is property to suit all types of purchaser. If you want privacy then a detached villa is your ideal choice. If you want neighbours then maybe a semi-detached villa would be most suitable.

The architecture can also vary dramatically from one property to another. There are some that have been built to retain the local Spanish architecture, whereas others are contemporary and ultra modern.

If you are looking to buy a villa in Marbella then you need to make some decisions on the type and style you ultimately want, otherwise you could be looking for years.

Budget is also a determining factor in your choice as well, and although there are some incredible bargains to be had in Marbella right now, you need to be realistic with your search. Ongoing running costs and maintenance are also big considerations as they can soon mount up if you need your pool cleaning, the property maintained and the garden tended.
