In news that has sent shock-waves across Spain, King Juan Carlos’ daughter Princess Cristina has received a summons to appear in court. The allegations of corruption relates to her husband Inaki Urdangarin who is accused of misuse of millions of euros of public money.
Spain is no stranger to corruption cases with well known and well documented cases against many top government and local officials with a host of mayors throughout the country already having been stripped of their status and prosecuted for money laundering, amongst other crimes. Police chiefs, mayors, politicians and now royalty seem to totally disregard the struggles of the mortal on the streets in Spain right now.
Inaki Urdangarin of course denies any wrong doing and it should be made clear that he has not actually been charged with any offenses as yet.
This case will make history for all the wrong reasons as it will be the first time a direct descendant of the Spanish king has been summoned to court.
Princess Cristina has been asked to appear in court in Palma de Mallorca on 27 April.
