Are you feeling happy? Well according to the most recent World Happiness Report produced in 2023, Finland is once again the top and considered the happiest nation on the planet.
So where does that leave Spain who were right near the top previously? Sadly, Spain has dropped to a lowly 32 place in terms of happiness, according to the survey conducted by the Gallup Institute.
This year more social aspects were considered to evaluate the happiness if people, which has differed from previous years. They included things like people’s perception of the war in Ukraine, the reaction to the Covid-19 situation, the cost of living and other similar issues that might have directly impacted them and their families.
It appears from the results that the people of Spain do not feel that some of the issues have been handled that well from their perspective, and that has had an impact on their daily lives, leaving them less happy.
The countries that seemed to have more ‘resilience’ during the various issues were those that formed the top ten happiest nations.
- Finland
- Denmark
- Iceland
- Israel,
- Netherlands
- Sweden
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Luxembourg
- New Zealand
Where there is a top table, there is also a bottom end to the table, and the nations that are the most unhappiest are those that have seen their own conflicts or are feeling the effects of climate change and cost of living.
- Afghanistan
- Lebanon
- Sierra Leone
- Zimbabwe,
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Botswana
- Malawi
Spain’s relegation in the overall table places them behind Estonia and just above Italy. Even with all the political turmoil and cost of living issues, the UK was above Spain in 19th place.
Let’s all hope that the rest of the year manages to cheer the people of Spain up again and out them towards the top of the table next time!
