Wherever people are in the world, we all seem to love talking about the weather and here in Spain it is not that much different. When it is not summer many of us complain about the cold and pray for the start of summer. When it rains, we want the sun to come out. In the height of summer, we cannot wait for rain and for it to cool down again.
This year however, there could well be even more people seeking cooler areas. Weather experts in Spain have been tracking the temperatures and are getting increasingly concerned that this year will see the arrival of a weather front called El Niño, pushing average temperatures across the country to new highs.
The two weather events that occur naturally across the Pacific are called La Niña and El Niño, which create opposite phenomena to each other. The La Niña effect cools the earths waters and therefore brings cold fronts to much of the planet as a result, whereas El Niño does the exact opposite and increases temperatures around the world.
Both events are responsible for the climate conditions across many parts of earth and the worry for 2023 is that any increase could wreak havoc in many different countries around the world.
According to Aemet, Spain’s state meteorological agency, they are quoting that it is more and more likely that Spain will feel the full force of El Niño this summer meaning that some parts of Spain could see temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius.
In general many parts of Spain have seen increasing temperatures each year but his could see a significant uplift compared to what we have seen previously.
