The day to day things that we have always taken for granted in our home countries can be very different when we decide to up sticks and move to another country like Spain.
If we take the UK as an example and look at driving, there are more differences to cope with for UK experienced drivers than for many of the other European citizens. Just the side of the road to drive on is the first major difference to negotiate. Getting used to driving on the right as opposed to the left can be a daunting task. If you buy a car in Spain that is left hand drive, you will need to get used to the different set up too. Using your right hand to change gear as opposed to your left for example.
Buying a car is also different. Not only will you notice that the prices for cars, especially second hand ones, are much higher, when you buy a car you essentially have a contract of ownership, instead of a log book.
The next main difference is when it comes to insuring the car. Car insurance in Spain insures the vehicle, not the person. That means that once insured, anyone with a valid driving license can drive the car so there is no need to have additional named drivers like you do in the UK.
To help you understand more about driving in Spain we have a dedicated page which explains more about rules and regulations as well as the laws regarding baby seats and child seats.
Happy driving!
